Cool, Calm and Respected

Commercial chillers and freezers are not only an important part of many businesses; in some they are absolutely critical.

That is why everyone from food manufacturers and distributors through to fresh produce growers and pharmaceutical companies rely upon Cooltherm Installation Services for the design, installation and maintenance of systems that are not only rugged and reliable, but also cost-effective.

Established in 1998 by two partners, Kevin Barratt and Jim Dawber, Cooltherm has become renowned for its quality workmanship and professionalism, with much of its work being won through repeat business and recommendation. Indeed, one of its very first customers, Perkins Foods (now Cranwick Convenience Foods), still uses its services today. And this story is replicated with other long-term customers.

Within the fresh produce sector Cooltherm has proven itself to be an innovative and committed partner, not least in November 2009 when Hull’s historic Fruit Market reached the end of an era and moved to a modern purpose-built facility at Priory Park near Hessle. Twelve established businesses moved from their 200-year-old premises in Humber Street and were assisted in this by Cooltherm, which moved and installed the companies’ chillers and freezers in a major operation that took approximately three months to complete.

With all traders able to move together as one community, continuity of trade and existing jobs were secured, and in the new, modern premises the traders fully expect the market to flourish.

Cooltherm has also recently completed a project for Kent-based Griffin & Brand, which is a leading specialist supplier of table grapes to the UK market. Originally, Cooltherm was called in seven years ago, and so successful was the project that it was asked to return and work on an extension. Like all of its jobs, this was very much a bespoke project, with Cooltherm having the expertise, experience and resources to complete on-time, on-budget, and to the very highest standards.
Although the company is comparatively small compared to some of its competitors, its specialist knowledge and experience, coupled with a constant desire to provide a complete and professional service, has enabled it to continue to succeed in what is a challenging economic climate. Everything Cooltherm does is a one-off, although it has developed some standard products such as its chilling tunnels, which are designed to harden hams to enable them to be sliced without the traditional use of nitrogen chilling. It has also designed some very efficient blast chillers that will take meat from 70° to 4° in four to five hours. Another development has been a mobile refrigeration unit designed for outside caterers; for example at large festivals. These are designed to run either as a fridge or as a freezer, are skid mounted and can be delivered or moved on road trailers. They can also be taken to farmers’ markets.

Cooltherm creates planned maintenance programmes too, which helps avoid breakdowns and protects and prolongs the life of equipment. Indeed, the company’s policy has been to look for new business customers, design and make a successful installation and then, once the initial equipment warranty expires, sign them up on an ongoing full maintenance and service contract. The success of this approach can be seen from the fact that with a number of customers, Cooltherm now has multiple installations and contracts.

Whatever the challenge, Cooltherm can tailor a solution to meet most requirements. For further information, telephone 0113 286 6194. You’ll be made very welcome.
