Veg trial proves that crops can grow in the coldest conditions

The results of a trial to test whether crops could be grown outside in containers during the winter months have been revealed this month (December). The trial, which was carried out by a group of volunteers, involved growing a range of edible crops from seed in specially designed self watering containers to see if they would germinate and grow earlier than usual in the coldest of conditions.

Lasting Leaf, the UK’s second largest bagged salad brand, is launching a new Caesar Salad ‘kit’ in ASDA stores nationwide this month.

The 270g salad bag is hot-pink for maximum on shelf stand-out. To encourage multiple uses and underline the brand’s ‘all week long’ positioning, each bag contains romaine lettuce, two sachets of Caesar Salad dressing, two sachets of bread croutons and Parmesan cheese.

Five More Redpack Frictionless Flowrapper

Redpack Packaging Machinery has won orders for a further five P325S-FI machines for flow wrapping apples without a tray. Packers are impressed by the new Frictionless Infeed that avoids product damage when apples, or delicate fresh product, is transported to the wrapping module.
